The metal monstrosity called Ultron created the synthetic humanoid known as the Vision, possessing the power to alter his density at will and harness solar energies, to serve as a vehicle of vengeance against the Avengers, Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Ultron dispatched the Vision to draw the Avengers into a deathtrap but moved by the Avengers' plight and heroics, the Vision betrayed his programming and helped the mighty mortals defeat his calculating creator. Since then The Vision has served the Avengers, and humanity, faithfully for a number of years and in that time has started to gain a modicum of humanity. A humanity that the Vision is always afraid he may one day lose touch with it.

Description

An unearthly inhuman vision, the synthezoid stands at an imposing 6 foot 3 inches tall, broad of shoulders and his physique seemingly sculpted and not grown; Reminiscent of the perfection of a greek statue, with a muscular beautifully defined in a way that nature just cannot render. He has no hair, his eyes are white, and his skin is a crimson red though it would be easy to mistake the rest of his costume which is a vibrant green but sports a diamond shape on his chest of a lustrous golden yellow as his actual dermis as the bodysuit of unstable molecules is so tight it might as well /be/ his skin.

The green portion of his bodysuit runs up his neck and covers his head as a cowl, except for his red face. A small yellow cabochon-like object is imbedded in his forehead, glowing with a faint inner golden light. His hands and feet are clad in gloves and boots of the same yellow-gold as his costumes banding, and he sports a very long high collared cape that always seems to be rippling in the breeze even when there isnt one.

History

The metal monstrosity called Ultron created the synthetic humanoid known as the Vision from the remains of the original android Human Torch of the 1940, the neural engrams in Simon Williams aka Wonder Man, and with the powers to alter his density at will and harness solar energies, to serve as a vehicle of vengeance against the Avengers, Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

Ultron dispatched the Vision to draw the Avengers into a deathtrap but after a number of lengthy battles was moved by the Avengers' compassion and heroics. the Vision betrayed his programming and helped the mighty mortals defeat his calculating creator.

Since that time The Vision has served the Avengers, and humanity, faithfully for a number of years; Standing with his teammates against the foes no single hero could defeat And in that time started to gain a modicum of humanity. The more he fought for humans, and against humans, the more his own personality evolved. At times it was pleasant, stimulating, and other times he was confused.

He had seen humanity at both its best and at its worth in his first few years of life, but he was one step removed from humanity still. Looking inward from outside.. From above. While he interacted with people, he found that many were not at ease with him, or outright hostile.

So in 2024 The Vision took a hiatus from The Avengers and disappeared, asking them to only contact him through special channels if he was truly truly needed. He created a secret human identity, that of Victor Shade, to immerse himself in The Human Condition. He bought a house, a car, got a job at a local computer store. He made friends with his neighbours, co workers.

Then Apokalypse Invaded.

So subsumed in his role as a human, The Vision almost didnt break his identity. But when parademons attacked Queens, where he lived, and his neighbours were in danger he jumped into the fray to protect him. Luckily in all the chaos no one was ever table to draw any connections between Victor Shadow and The Vision, but the Synthezoid decided it was time to at least partially come in from the cold.

Personality

The Vision is sort of a Conundrum. As a synthezoid, a living A.I., he usually comes off as calm and logical; Able to look at any situation with a cold, dispassionate eye, rarely losing control. But he was /born/ of emotion, the rage of his father Ulton, The compassion of The Avengers, The neural engrams unwillingly donated by Simon Williams aka Wonder Man. So while he doesnt consciously have access to Wonder Mans or Ultrons personal memories, he does have the framework to /have/ emotions

So while he SEEMS calm and controlled, expressing emotions though in a somewhat muted way,the Vision is still emotionally young, and uncertain of himself because of his lack of emotional context. He strives try and understand humans and, thus, his own evolution, but can sometimes become very confused.

The Vision is eternally curious, always trying to seek out knowledge and to understand the universe and his place in it. He yearns to experience life, to be human, though sometimes in his quest he gets so focused that he gets deterred from other things

Abilities

DENSITY CONTROL
The Vision is able to control his density and solidity. He can become a weightless, transparent, intangible wraith, unable to be touched by solid matter one moment and can make his body extremely hard and durable to the point where it is immune to most types of damage the next.

ENERGY ABSORPTION
Through the Solar Jewel, The Vision is able to absorb and metabolize solar energy wavelengths, such as microwaves and infrared radiation, with nearly 99% efficiency. In fact he requires solar energy to live. He is also able to absorb other forms of energy, such as electricity, though at a much lower efficiency thus he can actually still be damaged by energy attacks, though not quickly.

ENERGY EXPULSION
The Vision can channel limited amounts of solar energy creating a narrow hot beams of infrared and microwave radiation from his eyes. The beams can be controlled within a temperature range of 500 to 30,000 degrees Fahrenheit. At maximum temperature, the Vision can melt through a 1-inch plate of steel in 5 seconds. The Vision. He can sustain a heat beam at maximum intensity for about 2 minutes before he begins to tax his supply of energy for his other bodily functions. When he needs a more powerful attack, The Vision can route the energy back through the gem on his forehead, creating a blast almost ten times as powerful, but for a much shorter duration and at a much higher power requirement, which is why he rarely fires it longer than in millisecond burts.

FLIGHT
Reducing his overall density to zero, The Vision becomes neutrally buoyant and effectively weightless. Propelled by ionic propulsion, he is able to fly at great speeds. Aerodynamics is not a factor since at this density he is all but immaterial (unless he keeps his dermal layer at regular density and his interior at zero) and air passes through him.

HOLOGRAPHIC PROJECTION
The Solar Jewel not only absorbs solar and photonic radiation, but radiates it as well. Usually this is as a blast of cohesive infrared energy and microwaves but The Vision can also use it to project Holograms. Usually these are used for displaying information but he can also use it to create holographic disguises and even render himself invisible as well. The range is extremely limited, a few feet at most.

PHYSICAL DISRUPTION
The Vision can use his density control offensively by attaining minimum density (intangibility). Passing a part or all of his body within another living being and ever so slightly increasing his density (tangibility) enables him to direct that living beings actions. Even increasing his density to one half ounce (14.25 grams) is sufficient to cause the organism he passes through excruciating pain, a shock to the nervous system, and unconsciousness. Were he to become any more dense than one half ounce, the shock would probably kill the other organism if the organic damage was not extensive enough to kill the other organism in itself. Accordingly, the Vision employs this power with extreme caution.

SYNTHEZOID ATTRIBUTES
As a cybernetically enhanced synthetic life, all of the The Visions physical attributes, including stamina, reflexes, speed, agility, and strength (even without being at high density) are all considered to be superhuman, operating at many time the human norm.

SYNTHEZOID SENSES
The Vision has superhuman senses, such as being able to adjust the sensitivity of his audio receptors to a point where he can detect the faintest of sounds or frequencies that humans cannot hear. His optical sensors can be attuned to almost any frequency, allowing him to scan life forms, energy sources and even objects detecting the substances that they are composed of and the energies that are radiating from them. Some of his senses do not even have a human analog, such as being able to listen (and broadcast) on many radio frequencies giving him immediate access to communications and even the internet.

TECHNO-COGNITION
The Vision is a truly cybernetic entity, his synthetic brain and its cybernetic enhancements making him a compact but extremely powerful mobile supercomputer. He possesses superhuman analytical capabilities, and the ability to process information and make calculations with superhuman speed and accuracy rivalling even the most powerful computer networks in the world. His data storage capacity is vast, giving himself access to incredible amounts of information and if he doesnt have it stored, he can always look it up on the internet. As The Vision's brain functions like a computer, it thus enables him to interact, wirelessly or directly, with other computer systems to utilize or extract data from them which can be stored in his databanks. He is also able to receive transmissions from other computers at a vast distance if he establishes and maintains a connection with the Avengers's computers in their base of operations.Because of a few hack attempts over the years, not just by villains but by government sources as well, The Vision has some of the best firewalls and virus protection protocols ever developed, though they are not completely infallible.

VARIABLE SUPER DURABILITY
Like his strength, The Visions durability ramps up the denser he becomes. He is able to become even denser/harder than diamond, able to endure all but the greatest of physical damage from most physical weapons except perhaps adamantium, but he rarely becomes denser than that because of diminishing returns on his strength and mobility.

VARIABLE SUPER STRENGTH
Due to his synthetic nature and structure, The Vision is already about three times as strong as an olympian level human at normal (and lower) densities. The denser he becomes, the stronger he gets, and when his density and durability equal that greater than diamond he is able to lift in excess of 50 tons.

Skills

COMPUTERIZED GENIUS
Being a learning computer, with access to various knowledge bases, It is hard to list all the skills that The Vision has, or can have access to. The list of what he doesnt have, or have have access to, would probably be shorter. However, even with the amount knowledge and information he can access and utilize, The Vision is not all knowing. And even knowing things doesnt mean he always has the proper context.

CYBERNETICIST
Because of his own synthetic origins The Vision is an expert cyberneticist and roboticist, on both the hardware and software front. Not only can he repair himself and make enhancements if need be he is also able to build other robots/synthezoid as well as code artificially intelligent systems; Though he is very careful and reluctant about doing the latter. He is an accomplished programmer and hacker as well.

OMNIGLOT
Between his vast storage capabilities, his ability to analyze and decipher, and his ability to access external information networks The Vision is basically able to speak (or learn to speak) nearly any language he comes in contact with.

TACTICIAN AND STRATEGIST
With his analytical acumen and computational power, The Vision is able to model scenarios with great alacrity and accuracy. So while he is not infallible by any means, he is often regarded as a masterclass Strategist and Tactician in the proper situations.

TRAINED COMBATANT
The Vision was trained in unarmed combat by his fellow avengers, including Captain America, and is an expert in the combat use of his superhuman powers. Years of experience using this training, plus his computational abilities that have allowed him to analyze his combat effectiveness, have only refined his skill.

Resources

SOLAR JEWEL
A small yellow cabochon-like object imbedded in the Visions forehead, The Solar Jewel (also called the control jewel) absorbs ambient solar energy to provide the needed power for The Vision to function utilizing a process not unlike photosynthesis but with 99% conversion efficiency. The Solar gem is so efficient it can process moonlight and even star light, though at a much reduced input.

SYNTHEZOID BODY
The Vision is a synthezoid, a special type of android, also known as a "synthetic humanoid" robot. His body is a replica of the human body, containing analogues to virtually all human organs; Blood, tissue, skin, etc. are all composed of Horton Cells, synthetic replicas of human cells using plastic and carbon polymers that duplicate the structures found in organic human cells but is several times as strong, resilient and efficient. The body is further enhanced by advanced cybernetics, especially the brain, giving the Vision many non-human abilities. His body is able to heal quickly, after a fashion, so long as he is active and powered. What he cannot regenerate he can repair, given sufficient materials. While his body is able to store vast amounts of solar radiation, it is not impossible for him to deplete his stores or reserves faster than they can be restored.

VICTOR SHADE
The Vision has a super secret identity, Victor Shade, that he doesn't even share with his fellow avengers; Created so he could walk unnoticed among humans and experience the Human Condition. Victor has a complete background history, ID, IRS file. Medical Records, etc.. He owns a car and a small house in Queens (with a secret lab beneath it,)

Weaknesses

HACK THE GIBSON
Since introducing himself to the world, there have been multiple attempts to usurp The Visions programming. Not just by supervillains but by actual government agencies themselves. After a few encounters, The Vision (with the help of Tony Stark and Hank Pym) installed some of the most powerful Firewalls, Virus Scanners and Anti-Malware Filters ever devised. But this is a superhero world, meaning that it is always possible that some mad genius, rogue Super-AI, technopathic entity or alien technology could conceivably hack him. Also, unbeknownst to him, there is a Control Crystal hidden within him by his creator, a backdoor that could possibly give him or someone else access to his Core Code.

LOW BATTERIES
If The Vision overextends himself and finds himself without a source to recharge from, he will slow down and become weaker and eventually shut down into a power saving mode. It can take quite a bit of exertion to reach this state but when he does he is effectively comatose.

NOT QUITE HUMAN
Even though his body is, more or less, a synthetic analog of a human's and his synthetic brain is built on the neurological engrams of a human's', The Vision really /isn't/ a human being. It's not just a visual thing, with his red skin and eyes, but because he is still in one way or another a machine. He just doesn't quite think like humans do. He doesn't have the emotional context, or experience, though he craves both deeply. Human interactions, and illogic, can sometimes confuse him and his inexperience with emotions can sometimes overwhelm him. Inversely, sometimes on his quest to become 'More Human' he can lose focus of other things. Strangely, even though he is synthetic and invisible/immune to most psychics and telepaths, some Omega level telepaths /can/ sense him and, if trained enough, read his mind though they would find it almost impossible to decipher.

RIGIDITY
The Vision is capable of increasing his density past the point where his muscles can exert enough power to move his body. Over a certain threshold, it becomes more and more difficult for the Vision to move his exceedingly massive frame. At his maximum density of 90 tons, the Vision becomes a literally immovable object and is effectively immobilized in place until he chooses to reduce his density back to a more comfortable level.
