Profile

Trained as an agility dog and gifted with a good life with her boy, Nathan, Pippi was once at home among highrises and back yards where she was a relentlessly friendly companion dog -- until following an extended absence of her family, she was among precious objects robbed from their home! Entered into Delta Lab's Mammal Engineering Program through a private sale, Pippi found herself changed -- given the ability to walk upright, to talk, to think as a human would, mutations that were hoped for -- and super strength, one the labs didn't count on! Generally agreeable, if appearing a bit on the dull side, Pippi is chatty, friendly, and as loyal a friend as anyone is likely to find.

Description:

Pippi cuts a lean figure, typically wearing a hoodie. She has bright amber-brown eyes, her close-cut and often messy and bedraggled red hair sports a couple spots of white here and there. She's typically got an easy-going smile on her face, though it's her ears perched on top of her head and tail behind that tend to show expression and emotion. Every once in a while her left ear -- tattooed with a triangle and 4 4 7-- gives a flick on its own. She's got muscular tone to her body, leading down to her digitigrade legs, ending in dark colored, dull claws.

History

History:

Pippi started out life as 'Puppy Number 3', an accidental litter between a poodle and a pitbull from down the street. She and her litter mates were given color-coordinated collars (with bows for the girls and camo for the boy). Adopted by the family of Nathan Campbell, Pippi wanted for nothing and in return she was utterly devoted. Any trick Nathan asked of her, she did her best. Learning agility helped them both burn off energy, learning additional tricks like dancing, and working her obedience training. Life was good, for a while. She didn't understand what was happening as her boy grew seriously ill, but understood plainly that Nathan needed her. The family would be gone for long stretches of time, and Pippi would wait obediently by the door, head between her paws and waiting to welcome them home for that rattle of keys being dug out of a purse or pocket. Then one day, the afternoon faded into dark. Dark became deep dark. No family. A whole day went by, and then a half.

Her bowl was empty when they came in. She was so relieved to hear the rattling of keys that she immediately jumped up and started barking until the smell was all wrong. These men smelled like cigarette smoke, and for the first time in a long time Pippi felt her tail curl between her legs as she tried to slink away from the door, shying when they grabbed her leash and collar and trying to bolt when they exited, and loaded up with other expensive things in the household. She changed hands in a Bronx parking garage; it smelled of too-sweet Chinese food and highway exhaust. She was put into an unmarked white van, and taken away.

Her ear was tattooed with a Delta symbol, and the numbers 4-4-7. With unimaginable pain, Pippi was changing in the lab, afraid of their white-coated doctors with hands full of needles, forcing her paws to shift and her mind to open. She was growing in size and in capacity, and with her ability to talk, she proved one thing above all others: some creatures should not be given the ability. Anything that came to her head would automatically come out her mouth. Questions about where 'her boy' was. Questions about where she was.

Competency tests were swimmingly passed (except math and reading, there were many jokes about dogs eating homework that day in the report), she had a clean bill of health with no apparent abnormalities, and her temperament was superbly mellow. Over a period of a month, failure to show aggression was punished with withdrawal of rations, and then with electrocution. 447 quickly withdrew from being sociable to being afraid, and whenever you push a fearful dog...

The first surprise came when during an aggression test, 447 threw the agent testing her through drywall and a stud, with no one more surprised than the canine subject! Further testing showed her strength drastically increasing to superhuman levels -- a secondary mutation, and when she was returned to her cell personnel watches had to be doubled -- she had started pulling out steel bars from the door and leaving it dented in places as she tried to chew her way through, to the point where the subject had to be tranquilized and kept under a drug-induced haze for everyone's safety and with little chance to further train -- or test -- the subject safely on location a difficult financial decision had to be made.

Phone calls were made and within 24 hours an arrangement was agreed upon, and Delta Labs' accidental mutation stood to make its manager an awful lot of money. A short trip to the airport, a shipping container on a plane and then clear across the country to a wealthy private buyer meant Delta Labs could recoup the cost of materials, a bigger lab and more subjects. Ensured initial compliance meant a heavily drugged mutant, but no one banked on traffic taking so long -- or an accident that knocked the containment unit off the flatbed truck, spilling its contents into the river.

Pippi awoke, groggy, soggy... but free.

Personality

Personality:

Kind, compassionate if a bit dense, Pippi is also passionate and as dedicated a friend as you could ask for. Once you have her friendship and respect it would take some pretty heinous acts to break it.

At first Pippi is pretty simple; she doesn't seem particularly bright, and is initially hesitant in her interactions with others but she's friendly enough to make up for it once she decides a person is alright to be around. She has a lot of 'don't touch it because it's hot' common sense, though she doesn't often think her actions through where her super strength is concerned, resulting in a lot of little (or large) accidents involving dents and furniture. She's a dog who's ruled presently by her instincts, and makes a lot of poor judgments based on her limited experience with the outside world. She's a quick and eager learner, though, playing catch up and has the maturity of someone in high school... which means on occasion there's bound to be some petulant behavior.

Once you get to know her, Pippi is... still never going to be a genius, but will ask a lot of questions until either she's worn someone out or until she understands, being curious about the workings of the world around her. She's also chatty, willing to talk about whatever comes to mind and is rarely still for very long, preferring action or activity to laying about in most cases.

Once you have her friendship (or you're being introduced by someone who does) she's friendly and loving to a fault, and often displays a desire to be helpful to others. She picks up dropped things, helps carry heavy things, and tries to make herself useful (even if it unintentionally results in the occasional broken vacuum) -- but she is also incredibly forgiving as a person. She doesn't fault the people at Delta Labs, since they were really only doing their job -- with the exception of the temperament tester, who she believes was cruel for the sake of being cruel. She believes that people are by default "good", and it takes a lot to actually break her opinions of others once formed.

Pippi does have a distinct lack of forethought; she's the type to barge into situations without considering the full affect of her presence and outcome, attempt maneuvers that she is ill-suited to do (do not ever expect her to master delicate bead work, it just won't happen), she'll laugh at jokes that fly over her head and will mix metaphors more than Yogi Berra, sometimes to the confusion of others. She has a decent enough memory, though it might take a minute to pull more complicated thoughts out of her.

There are a few things that do bother the dog: Pippi can't abide by is being forced to read, and she has a strong dislike of cruelty for cruelty's sake. With severe dyslexia she might one day be able to work out simple words in children's books, but will easily get frustrated with repeated attempts to make her read. Cruelty, on the other hand, was something she suffered at the lab where she was created and was what prompted her first angry outburst of super strength, which triggered her sale from Delta in the first place.

Abilities

Mutant Dog:
Pippi is a mutant dog. She has all the abilities of a dog (enhanced sense of smell, capable of tracking by scent, enhanced hearing) but human intelligence and stature. She has a background in agility training and has greater-than-human stamina and speed.

Super Strength:

Pippi has an additional, random mutation of super strength with a maximum lift of five tons. Her muscles have developed a mutative fiber, which strengthens both muscle tissue and her bone structure to survive the additional stressors of force from heavy lifts.

Skills

Agility Training:
Agility training has left Pippi with plenty of skill to run, jump, crawl through and weave around. She has no problem getting around anywhere, climbing over anything with an incline, up and down ladders, and long-jump over alleyways.

Martial Arts:
Pippi has been engaging in intense, every-day training in a blend of martial arts combing boxing, aikido and ninjistu. Though still a neophyte, these skills help to control her strength and focus her blows and set up a foundation for further training. She can throw punches with some skill, sidestep blows from the common rabble with ease, and if she gets her hands on someone, she's always keen to see how far she can throw them.

Urban Survival:
Pippi is a survivor. She's got enough common sense to know what trashcans are the best, where to sleep to stay out of the rain, and how to avoid angry packs of coyotes in the park!

Weaponry:

Pippi has basic training in a variety of knives, staves and swordplay and beginner's experience with throwing knives - provided the target's within 10 feet, she can hit accurately within a foot with the pointy end. She still favors her super strength and brute force as a weapon and relies on other weaponry as back-up or to take an enemy by surprise.

Resources

Gauntlets:
Jokingly dubbed 'Trial and Error', these gauntlets constructed of re-enforced alloys and Kevlar that secure to Pippi's forearms, and are strong enough to withstand sword blows and close-range gunfire - if she's REALLY lucky and has time to prep for the incoming slug! Each gauntlet consists of an elbow cover, the main gauntlet, a wrist protector and a mitt that extends over the canine's knuckles.

Part of the Team:
Pippi has been adopted into the Turtle Family, a level of trust extended to living in The Lair with the Team of Green. Like any other family there may be tension, but there is no doubt that her loyalty to the Turtles and their father and sensei, Splinter, and her own sister-in-arms Alopex is absolute.

Street Life:

Pippi had past experience finding safe places to sleep and cans to eat out of before interment in Delta Labs, and can adapt to most cities with ease.

Weaknesses

Clumsy:
Pippi still has to learn fine tuned control of her strength, sometimes even seeming to forget that she has it, resulting in her using too much strength for small tasks (slapping a mosquito on someone's arm) and far too much strength for medium tasks (moving a fridge a few inches to clean behind it, vs. across the household through a wall).

Escapee:
Pippi -- as Delta-447 -- was sold to a private buyer by Delta Labs. Interested parties may be on the look out pending rewards, so it's important to keep her head down and try to stay out of trouble. Due to the abuse at Delta, Pippi is likely to be hesitant about meeting new people and reluctant to share information about herself.

Family Ties:
As an extension of the Turtle Family, Pippi is put in square confrontation with The Foot Clan and its leader, The Shredder. While she can take on a few Foot soldier attackers using her super-strength to compensate for her lack of skill, it's easy to overwhelm her with greater numbers. As their circle of allies grows, so also do the risks from outside...

Illiterate:
Pippi is dyslexic to the point of illiteracy; letters and numbers don't make a lick of sense to her and signs without some sort of graphic or notable shape are meaningless.

Mutant Dog:
Pippi is a mutant dog, and it would be a hard sell to see her as anything close to a human! Her ears and tail give off obvious emotional cues, she has fur, digitigrade legs, and issues with adapting to very warm situations -- no sweat means in a hot room, she'd be panting!

Sensory Overload:

Pippi, being canine, has a fine tuned sense of smell and hearing. It's easy to overload her hearing with high pitched or sudden loud sounds, rendering her motionless as she tries to cover her ears and could be driven from an area given a bad enough smell or anything that attacks olfactory (like pepper spray, mace) will affect her sense of smell and tracking ability for longer than a human.
