Profile
Heir to the multi-billion dollar corporation known as Worthington Industries, Warren Worthington III has all the trappings of a self-absorbed, flirtatious young playboy, glib, witty, and seemingly uncaring about the world around him. Yet this superficial façade hides a truly caring and selfless heart, though one damaged slightly by events during his time with the X-Men that have scarred him both emotionally and physically. Openly a mutant, Warren uses his means both at Xavier's and abroad to help those in need of it, pursuing altruistic causes for both humans and mutants alike -- even as he struggles with the darker urges inside him.

At 6', with a pretty face and hand-tailored clothes to boot, Warren Worthington strikes a decisively preppy appearance. Angular features and the streamlined body of a surfer or swimmer's physique complement well with his short, swept blonde hair and strikingly blue eyes, skin boasting a modest tan and an easy smile that covers the sometimes distant way he addresses the world effortlessly.
His taste in fashion tends to have a wide gamut, but he often favors tailored clothes in the form of fetching suits of various stripes and made for a close fit, which work well with the confident way he tends to carry himself, but t-shirts and jeans are also far from out of the question, either. Either way -- it's highly unlikely he'll ever be caught dead wearing something off-brand.
What's most striking about him, though, are the wings; sometimes hidden, sometimes not, they stretch an impressive eighteen foot wingspan, full of soft, ruffled white feathers that give him an angelic cast, especially when combined with everything else. Born in Centerport, New York to the prestigious Worthington family, heir apparent of the multi-billion dollar enterprise of Worthington Industries, Warren wanted for very little as a child. He attended the best schools, lived in the best house(s), had the best care, and even moreso, his father and mother cared for him dearly.
Which, perhaps, was why Warren, so used to being normal, rich, and happy, at first found himself shocked -- horrified -- when his mutation first manifested while he was attending Phillips Exeter Academy. When his wings finally -- painfully -- sprouted from his shoulder blades, when they grew far too large for him to reasonably be able to hide, Warren felt himself hideous -- that he was a freak, detestable and sure to be shunned.
... And then he discovered he could use those wings to fly.
It was the most thrilling -- most remarkable -- experience of his life. And Warren, natural thrill seeker that he was, dived into this ability with an enthusiasm that would put the most egregious of bon vivants to shame. Deciding to use these newfound powers to help people, Warren dressed himself up using props from the academy, concealing his identity as the "Avenging Angel" and using that secret identity to help those in need, including one Cameron Hodge, a young man who would surely be Warren's friend and confidante for life and never, ever stab him in the back.
Eventually, though, Warren was discovered by Xavier and his institute -- and eventually, he would be invited to join not only the School, but Xavier's own team of mutant superheroes, the X-Men. He, of course, accepted eagerly, and while his naturally playboyish persona chafed with some, he soon became an indispensable and loyal member of the team, his natural empathy and desire to do good pushing him to excel -- a drive that would only increase after the death of his father and his decision to publically reveal himself as a mutant.
His tenure with the X-Men would be only briefly interrupted at a particularly harrowing point in his life. Betrayed (gasp!) by Cameron and left without his wings, Angel was captured and enthralled by the ancient mutant Apocalypse, briefly becoming Death, the leader of his Horsemen. Though he was saved, and though his tenure under the old and powerful mutant was brief, the mark it left on him was profound -- and one that Warren still grapples with to this day, doing his best to further the goals of the X-Men and put on a carefree face for the world... even as he struggles with those scars that yet linger.

Flirtatious, bold, thrill-seeking and seemingly perpetually carefree, Warren strikes a stereotypical rich playboy image to most that meat him, and at least in part this persona is real. He enjoys challenging himself, he enjoys the finger things in life, he enjoys -living- -- but his heart is genuinely selfless and well-meaning, and he cares and is deeply loyal to those he counts amongst his friends. It's an altruistic nature that has been tempered by the trauma he has endured and the darker impulses he is now saddled with, struggling with the constant fear that he may hurt the people and things important to him and the aggression of his Archangel side that he tries to mask as best he can with his fast living and fervent dedication towards the wellbeing of Xavier's and the students within.

ENHANCED PHYSIOLOGY
Because of his mutation, Angel's entire body is adapted toward flying: his bones are hollow, his metabolism faster and more efficient, and his muscle mass is more streamlined with an extremely small proportion of body fat. He possesses peak human strength, able to lift up to 500 pounds, and his flexibility, agility, speed, endurance, reflexes, coordination, balance, eyesight and hearing all similarly operate at their peaks. He can process oxygen more efficiently than others, allowing him to breathe at high altitudes and extreme velocities, as well as enduring extreme colds in temperatures and a body built durable enough to withstand the incredible accelerations he is capable of reaching.
FLIGHT
Thanks to his wings and enhanced physiology, Warren is capable of achieving flight; with his normal, feathered wings, he averages speeds of roughly 70 mph and a maximum of 150 mph, a speed he can maintain for roughly a half hour before fatigue sets in, with swooping speeds approaching approximately 180 mph. When his wings are in their techno-organic form, these speeds are exponentially faster, though the upper limits of this speed isn't quite known; it is fast enough that he can reach the United States from Brazil in a matter of a handful of hours at most.
HEALING FACTOR
A secondary mutation, Warren's blood contains a regenerative healing factor that allows him to recover from injuries at a much faster rate than normal humans; while nothing remarkable compared to Wolverine's, he is capable of healing wounds such as slashes and punctures within hours, and mend broken bones in a week's time instead of months.
What is truly special about this property, though, is that it can affect others; people given blood transfusions with Warren's blood will be able to heal injuries at a much faster rate for a limited duration... provided they have the same blood type as him, at any rate.
TECHNO-ORGANIC WINGS
When he was taken by Apocalypse and transformed into the Horseman of Death, Warren's original flesh-and-blood wings were replaced with a pair made of techno-organic, Celestial technology. These wings are highly flexible and highly mutable; they are capable of assuming the form of his original, white, feather wings, and can fold tight against his back to largely conceal them from sight if necessary.
In their techno-organic form, these wings are highly durable and allow Warren to fly at high speeds, able to cross the space between North and South America within hours. They are also capable of loosing metallic feathers as flechettes that are sharp enough and move fast enough to penetrate steel. On top of this, the techno-organic feathers of these wings are all laced with a neural inhibitor chemical they produce naturally, inducing temporary paralysis in people they cut (immunities and healing factors notwithstanding). These wings are also incredibly strong and durable, able to knock someone through walls and endure intense punishment.
Though it is just a superficial change, Warren's skintone also changes to blue when his wings shift towards their techno-organic form, a sign of Apocalypse's mark on him.

He experiences frequent nightmares, and his fears of once more falling into his old mantle as the Horseman of Death and hurting his friends and loved ones makes him oftentimes emotionally distant from others, projecting that adventurous, flirtatious playboy persona more as a coping mechanism to keep others distant.
The more violent tendencies of the Archangel are largely kept in check thanks to the efforts of the good people of Xavier... but that fear still lingers, and still affects Warren -- profoundly.
