Profile

The daughter of the infamous jewel thief Walter Hardy, aka the Cat, Felicia Hardy grew up wanting for nothing; until her father was betrayed and sent to prison after being set up by his former associates. Felicia began dedicating herself to becoming the greatest cat burglar in the world, and rescuing her father from prison. Encountering metahumans like Spider-Man and Daredevil during her quest, Felicia went to the Power Broker to get metahuman powers of her own to level the playing field. With enhanced physical abilities and a 'Bad Luck' field, Felicia became the Black Cat and quickly gained notoriety as one of the greatest thieves in Manhattan, if not the world. After discovering that her 'Bad Luck' effect was harming people she was close to, Felicia went into semi-retirement away from New York to find a way to gain greater control over her powers. Now, after years abroad, the Black Cat is back to steal what she wants from the rich... and give to herself.

Description:

The woman you see before you is taller than average, just a little under one hundred and eighty centimetres, with a body that is both athletic and rather voluptuous. She has curves in all the right places to make men notice her, yet she also shows well-toned muscles in the parts of her body that are bare or covered in skin-tight clothing. Long platinum blonde, almost white hair flows over her shoulders, and down to the middle of her back. Her most striking feature, however, would have to be her green eyes; a rich green colour like emeralds and with a sparkle in them that hints of playful mischief.

She is dressed in a skin-tight black costume, with a sharply plunging neckline that tapers to a v-point at her sternum, providing a generous view of her bosom. The neckline, forearms, and calves are trimmed in long white fur that matches her hair, with white leather gloves and boots also lined with white fur. The soles of the boots are padded with a tread and a slight lift to the heels. Around her neck, she wears a black leather collar with a round silver tag. A black, thin frame domino mask is worn to conceal her identity, adding to the allure of those emerald eyes of hers.

History:
Felicia Hardy was born into a life of wealth and privilege. Her father was a successful international businessman in Manhattan, and Felicia was always provided with the best of everything. But rather than spoiling his daughter, Walter Hardy impressed upon Felicia the importance of earning the best; so while she never wanted for anything, anything she wanted was earned through school grades, performance in gymnastics, and other endeavours.

Then, at age ten, everything was taken from Felicia, and she learned the truth about her father.

Walter Hardy wasn't an international businessman; not in the way he portrayed himself, at least. In truth, Walter's international 'business' was art and jewel thievery, as the infamous burglar known as the 'Cat'. Eventually, Walter had crossed the wrong people and associates he had trusted betrayed him. Walter was arrested in a sting operation set up by his associates and the New York Police Department. To spare his family public humiliation, Walter made a deal with the District Attorney to confess to charges of Embezzlement and Insider Trading; more 'socially acceptable' crimes by the standards of Manhattan Society. Felicia and her mother had almost everything taken from them after Walter's arrest, with just enough money remaining to start a new life for the two in Queens; a far fall from the society life in Manhattan. After learning the truth about her father and the betrayal he had suffered, Felicia swore revenge on those who had conspired against him.

As a teen, Felicia began making connections with some of her father's few remaining loyal friends in the criminal underworld. From them, she learned the arts of stealth and breaking and entering. How to case a building to be broken into? How to survive in the shadows beyond the law? Felicia also began her training in various martial arts and experimenting with the grappling gun designs used by her father for breaking into high-rise buildings. When she enrolled in Empire State University after high school, Felicia majored in art history, and became an adept student.

Finally, after years of training, Felicia put her plans into motion. Creating the costumed identity of the 'Black Cat', she began her criminal career by targeting those who had turned her father into the police, stealing from them. Felicia also began leaving clues for the N.Y.P.D. to follow to the various illicit enterprises run by those that betrayed her father. After several months, Felicia was prepared to take her most daring step: break her now ailing father out of prison.

The prison break was going smoothly, until Spider-Man showed up. Felicia was a great thief, but Spider-Man was something altogether more than human. Black Cat was almost caught by the webbed wonder, and she only escaped with her father after resorting to a previously set explosive distraction. Spider-Man broke off the fight to ensure that the prison guards were safe, lured away by a tape recording of calls for help that Felicia had planted beforehand, along with the explosives. The fight taught Felicia a valuable lesson: no matter how good she was, she was still human. And in New York, more and more metahumans were appearing every day to stop criminals like her.

History2:

A few months after the prison break, Walter Hardy had passed on, and Felicia sought out the Power Broker, a criminal fixer who specialised in providing people with metahuman augmentation, for a price. Felicia spent most of her money and resources on the Power Broker's treatment, but emerged with increased strength, superhuman agility, and the ability to manipulate probability to bestow 'Bad Luck' on an opponent. The remainder of her funds were spent on a new costume, designed and crafted by the Tinkerer to Felicia's specification, offering protective capabilities, as well as items like retractable claws and a version of her father's grappling gun built into each glove.

With her new abilities and costume, Felicia went back to being the preeminent cat burglar in Manhattan. Subsequent run-ins with Spider-Man showed that she was now his equal and could hold her own in fights against such heroes. However, Felicia found one weakness that she hadn't counted on when she planned her 'upgrade'. Her clashes with Spider-Man became more frequent, and Felicia found herself laughing at the jokes and quips that Spider-Man would make as they fought. She even came to admire him, to her own surprise. In response, Felicia would begin flirting with Spider-Man during their bouts, with Spider-Man responding in kind. Felicia became curious about the man behind the mask; why someone who had all the power and skill she had waste that potential on protecting a city that too often turned against him. She began wondering if she was really the one wasting her powers...

Things came to a head when Spider-Man enlisted the help of the Black Cat to stop Doctor Octopus. In the resulting fight, Felicia was severely injured, although Doc Ock's plan was foiled. Spider-Man rushed her to a hospital, where the two confessed their feeling for each other. During Felicia's recuperation, they exchanged their identities, and Felicia was surprised to discover that Spider-Man was a normal person named Peter Parker, rather than the dashing hero she had always envisioned him to be. Complicating matters was a run of bad luck that Spider-Man kept encountering in both his civilian and heroic personas. A brick in a wall he was crawling on came loose in a fight with the Vulture. Pictures Spider-Man had taken of himself to sell to the Daily Bugle had been mysteriously deleted or wouldn't develop properly. It seemed that ever since Spider-Man and Black Cat began spending more time with each other, Spider-Man just couldn't catch a lucky break.

Eventually, Felicia came to the conclusion that her Bad Luck powers were bleeding over to Peter, even though she wasn't using them on him. After Spider-Man had a close call with Kraven, with multiple inexplicable occurrences of bad luck, Felicia knew that she was the source. Without a word or a note, Felicia left to seek out a way of containing or controlling this effect.

The next few years saw Felicia travel through Europe and Asia, performing heists and robberies while she sought out a 'cure', finding none. Now, she's returned back to Manhattan, still trying to figure out a solution or cure to her 'condition'. And, of course, stealing from the criminally rich and giving to herself; a woman's got to live the life she's accustomed to, after all.

Personality:

Flirtatious: Felicia knows the effect a pretty woman can have on men, and she's more than willing to take advantage of that. Her costume was designed to lead male opponents to distraction, and even in her civilian identity, she wears clothing designed to flaunt her sexuality. She flirts with men to distract them or gain an advantage, and she finds the flirting to be a great source of amusement.

Thrill-Seeker: One of the reasons why Felicia can't just stop being a thief is that she's an adrenaline junkie. She needs the thrill of swinging from rooftop to rooftop hundreds of feet in the air, the challenge of defeating a supposedly impenetrable security system, then free falling off the target building only to catch a ledge with a swing line at the last moment. Her greatest enemy is boredom, and she fights it every night she's out on the prowl.

Possessive: As a thief, Felicia lives by the adage 'possession is 9/10ths of the law'. Anything she wants, she takes and she keeps. That goes not just for objects, but for people as well. Once she sets her sights on a person, she doesn't let go easily.

Mercurial: Just like a cat, Felicia's mood can switch in an instant. She can go from purring affection with someone into a scathing rage just because the wrong thing was said. Grudges can also be dropped just as quickly if the offending party makes some amends or does something to amuse her.

Bad Luck:
Felicia generates "bad luck," altering probability to create seemingly coincidental if sometimes preposterous effects that hinder her enemies (and only her enemies). The wall you're climbing on is so weak it buckles under your weight; a bullet explodes in the chamber of your gun; there's a rock right in front of your motorcycle during a high-speed chase; the hover-bike your friend is on has a busted regulator. Because it works on so fundamental a level, danger senses don't pick it up until it happens (Puma's quasi-mystic senses, however, could detect an 'aura' around her when her power was active).

The effect of creating bad luck for someone else is, often, good luck for Felicia herself - she dodges the lightning, the vial of aqua regia falls and dissolves the gold that's suffocating her, etc.

This power is entirely unconcious; Felicia has no control over it whatsoever, incapable of choosing its targets, intensity or effects. It operates without involvement from her, and she she cannot turn it off.

Enhanced Physiology:

The treatments administered to her by the Power Broker gave Felicia a boost to her physical attributes. Felicia can lift around 2,000 kilograms. Her agility and dexterity were enhanced to superhuman levels, allowing her to perform amazing feats of balance (like running along a tight wire), sprint at 50 kph, and dodge bullets. Her general stamina and endurance were also increased, letting her run or exert herself for a couple hours, and also giving her a slightly better resistance to blunt force trauma than a normal human.

Art History:
In her first years of college at Empire State University, Felicia studied Art History. She's capable of evaluating art based on its creator, estimated value, and cultural impact. She can also spot forgeries through careful examination.

Escape Artist:
Part of the reason why Felicia's identity isn't known to the police yet is her skill at escapology. She can get out of normal restraints with ease, usually able to escape police custody before the squad car or transport makes it more than a few blocks away from the scene of the arrest. Ropes, chains and padlocks, straightjackets, and other such restraints are possible for her to escape from in a minute or so. She can also escape electronically locked restraints with improvised tools.

Fighting:
Felicia has trained in multiple martial arts, such as Judo, Aikido, and Goju-Ryu Karate. These arts mainly focus on hand strikes, joint locks, holds, and throws. She can handle multiple opponents and is good enough to handle herself against highly skilled fighters like Captain America or Nightwing.

Gymnastics:
Felicia has studied gymnastics from an early age and is highly accomplished. She uses her gymnastics skill to great advantage in combat and general travel, leaping off flagpoles, grabbing streetlights to swing around, flipping through laser traps, and generally confounding opponents.

Stealth:
As a thief, Felicia is highly adept at sneaking around. Hiding in shadows and skulking around is part of her stock in trade, and she can avoid detection most of the time. Those possessing superhuman senses, or watchfulness bordering on paranoia (Batman), can spot her when she's trying to be sneaky, but in general, Felicia's good enough to slip past military special forces.

Thief:

Felicia is one of the most accomplished thieves alive today. She's capable of picking any lock, defeating nearly any security system. She's good enough to break into most high-security facilities up to agencies like S.H.I.E.L.D. She keeps up to date on new locks, security systems, and surveillance.

Costume:
Felicia's costume was custom designed for her by the Tinkerer to supplement her metahuman abilities. In addition to being bullet and flame resistant, it also has retractable steel claws built into the gloves, capable of shredding steel cable. Modified versions of her father's line casters are also built into the gloves to allow her to travel via swinging or to help with climbing a building quickly or stopping a fall. Special contacts lenses provide her with low-light and thermal vision. Several pouches and compartments are hidden throughout the costume to hold tools or stolen items.

Crew:
In addition to the broader contacts in the criminal underworld, Felicia has her own crew.

* DR. BORIS KORPSE - Self-taught genius, self-titled doctor. Expert in computer systems, hacking, explosives, mad science, Shakespeare, war crimes. Does not believe in magic, despite being friends with a ghost dog.

* BRUNO GRAINGER - Ex-Army helicopter pilot, ex-Bagram heavyweight champ. Can steal and drive anything on wheels, and fly anything with blades; once stole a SHIELD super-car. Human peak strength, expert fighter, would kick Batman in the nuts if asked. Has every Elvis album. In the car. Right now. Pick one.

Criminal Contacts:
Felicia has been a thief for a while now, and has developed numerous contacts in the criminal underworld. She knows who to go to get information about people, jobs, or to fence any loot she's acquired. She can also get gadgets and computer code breakers to overcome her deficiencies in computer hacking.

Super-Friends:
Despite her lengthy, high-profile career as cat burglar, Felicia has managed to make friends with a truly shocking number of superheroes. She is very rarely treated with the seriousness afforded most villains, and even gets invited to all the best Super Specials and Team-Ups.

Wealth:

Both from what she inherited from her father and her own efforts, Felicia independently wealthy. She has numerous off-shore bank accounts and could easily live out the rest of her life in luxury, if it wouldn't bore her to death. She has a penthouse apartment in East Side, Manhattan, and a black Jaguar XK9 among her tangible assets. Felicia is considered nouveau riche in Manhattan society, her money inherited from her father (who stole from many of the socialites at one time or another), and Felicia gets invited to most of the social gatherings in New York.

Criminal Record:
Felicia has run afoul of the law many times as Black Cat. Fortunately for her, she's never been caught long enough for her identity to be recorded by law enforcement personnel. The Black Cat is currently wanted by the New York Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigations in connection with some of her previous crimes. The International Criminal Police Organisation would like to have a chat with the Black Cat about a recent string of high-profile robberies in Europe and Asia.

Greedy:
Perhaps her biggest character weakness, Felicia is greedy. She was raised as Daddy's Princess and taught that she should only have the absolute best in life. Unlike most indulged girls, however, Felicia was taught to earn the best things in life, rather than have it handed to her. As a result, she goes after high-value targets, even though she already has more than enough money. It's a combination of the thrill-seeker in her and this desire for more that keeps her living the life of a thief.

Hunted:
Over the years, Felicia has stolen a lot of things from a lot of wealthy and influential people, criminal or otherwise. There are a lot of grudges against the Black Cat, and sometimes Felicia needs to pull a job to square her record with someone powerful. For the most part, the people that are hunting Black Cat are more interested in using her skill than getting payback, but there's always the occasional double-cross.

Secret Identity:
Felicia has managed to keep her dual identity safe so far. There are both criminal and law enforcement groups that are looking for Black Cat, for a variety of reasons. She maintains her secret identity more to prevent all the hassles that being public would cause than a concern for her own safety or the safety of others.

Unconcious Entropy:

Felicia's bad luck power works on an entirely unconcious level - she does not control it, does not target it, and cannot so much as turn it 'on' and 'off.' As a result, her conscious and unconcious moods influence who is targetted by it, and the extent to which to which they are affected, meaning that even her friends and allies can find themselves disastrously 'unlucky' in a mind-boggling array of ways if she is upset with them, if guilt engenders a sense of resentment towards them, etc.
