Robert "Bobby" Louis Drake was born in New York, the son of an Irish Catholic father and a Jewish mother. His mutant powers manifested at an early age when he froze a bully in a block of ice and was taken into custody by the local sheriff to protect him from the lynch mob. Prof. Xavier sent Scott Summers (Cyclops) to recruit Bobby into the X-Men. Bobby took easily to his training with the X-Men, befriending Beast, Rogue, and Pyro, who formed a team within the team. He's even managed to get his B.S. in Accounting and is studying for his CPA. His life hasn't been without problems lately. When Pyro took up with the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Bobby was crushed and still vows to turn him back to the side of good. Today he's a valuable member of the X-Men team, combining his hand-to-hand training from time spent in the Danger Room with his natural ability to control the moisture in the air. He's known to be up front and honest with his emotions, and has often a lighthearted reaction to disaster that eases the tension. You'll always find Iceman at the forefront when danger appears, though he's been known to hold back from using the full force of his powers for fear of what damage he could cause. He is loyal to those he calls friends, even if they don't return the loyalty.

Iceman is a young member of the X-Men, looking to be in his early twenties. While standing only 173 cm (5'8" tall), he carries his lean, athletic body with confidence that can sometimes border on cockiness. He keeps his light brown hair neatly trimmed and shorter on the sides, though it appears the only styling he gives it is by running his fingers through it. Intense blue eyes, framed by a pair of slightly arched brows, gives him an introspective expression when he isn't smiling. However, the smile lines that frame his small, straight nose when he laughs offers a more much approachable appearance. His smooth, unblemished skin maintains a constant state of being almost tanned, but never quite achieving it.

It's clear Iceman takes care of himself showcased by a set of broad shoulders, trim waist, and toned muscular arms, the package earned by hours training in the Danger Room moreso than at a traditional gym. He's dressed for action at the moment, wearing the uniform of the X-Men. His jacket is made of form fitting black leather and stitched with a large "X" in the middle of the chest. The high collar keeps his neck protected while raised ridges on the shoulders and upper arms gives added protection in fights. The long sleeves have thick patches on the elbows, while leather gloves protect each of his hands while giving him a good grip. Lower, similar black leather pants hug his waist, rear and legs tightly but give him adequate mobility in a fight. More ridges protect the outer thighs and thick patches add protection to the knees. On his feet he wears thick soled black leather combat boots that extend past his ankles.

Robert "Bobby" Louis Drake was born in Floral Park, Long Island, New York to Louis Robert Drake and Madeline Beatrice Bass-Drake. Bobby is Jewish on his mother's side and Irish Catholic on his father's. Bobby first discovered his mutant abilities at a young age when he found himself unable to stop feeling cold and shivering.

A school bully named Rocky Beasely had convinced his gang to attack Bobby and Judy Harmon, his girlfriend at the time. Bobby panicked and encased Rocky in ice, saving Judy, but revealing his abilities to his peers. Believing Bobby to be a dangerous mutant, the people of his town, Fort Washington, organized a lynch mob. The mob broke into the Drake household and overpowered them. The local sheriff noticed that things were getting out of hand and took Bobby into custody for his own protection

The story made its way to Professor Charles Xavier, founder of the X-Men, who then sent Scott Summers to help and recruit the young man.

After Bobby turned him down, the two mutants got into a brief scuffle before the mob caught up with them. The mob was stringing Scott and Bobby up to be hanged when Professor X used his telepathic abilities to erase their memories. Grateful for saving his life and yearning to be like Scott, Bobby enrolled in Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters and become the second member of the X-Men. There, the X-Men were tutored by Professor X and trained in the use of their powers in the Danger Room. As 'Iceman', Bobby learned to control his abilities in order to protect a world that feared and hated him for being different alongside Cyclops, Angel, Beast, and Marvel Girl. As new members were brought on, Bobby quickly befriended Beast, Rogue, and Pyro. However, he remained self-conscious about being the youngest member of the group. Still, his lighthearted approach to disaster often eased tension among his teammates and he was often the cooler head to prevail when tensions rose.

Bobby is devastatingly honest, up front with both his emotions as well as his thoughts on a given subject. He doesn't try to be rude, but he's found that only heartache and pain follow in the wake of lies and half-truths between friends. When among those he trusts, he tends to make light hearted comments, particularly in the face of danger. Part of this is his coping mechanism, since he finds this light hearted approach puts his teammates at ease in stressful situations. Finally, he is brave against dangers both external and internal and is never one to leave a teammate behind, regardless of the danger to himself.

Iceman can generate, manipulate and fully control ice, snow and cold temperatures, he can use his mutant ability to control moisture such as to freeze any air moisture into super-hard ice. This ice can be formed into any object of his choosing: the only limitations are his own imagination and the ambient air temperature which determines how long his ice sculpture will stay icy. He does not have to hold the ice physically with his hands in order to shape it. Apparently, he can simply direct the waves of coldness he projects in certain ways so as to create ice in the shape he desires. In the past, Iceman has formed ice-ladders, ice-slides, ice-shields, ice-domes, ice-bolts, ice-blasts, ice-beams and other constructs of ice. Iceman has created constructs of ice so powerful that he was able to easily encase and contain the likes of the Hulk with him being unable to break out of it for quite some time. On at least one occasion, he has even been shown to make it snow or cause a blizzard. He can also Unfreeze matter.
Ice Glide
Iceman is able to form a rising column of ice beneath his feet, capable of lifting him off the ground. The tensile strength of the column is determined by its thickness and its steadiness by how well it has been braced. A well-braced and regular column, 6 feet in diameter at its base, is able to support his weight without toppling for about 85 feet in a 40-mile per hour wind. By forming long ice-ramps connected either to his ice-column or to an existing structure like a building or a bridge, Iceman is able to travel above the ground by sliding down the ramp he is creating. Unless he creates supports periodically, the ramp will crack beneath him, unable to support their combined weight.
Organic Ice-Form
Iceman had the ability to not only cover his body with ice, but to actually become organic ice. Though the appearance is similar, Iceman is now actually translucent in his ice form. Iceman is virtually indestructible in this form, allowing him to reform his body should it become shattered. He has been incinerated while in human form and was able to rebuild himself. In his ice form, he is able to use the moisture in the air to form spikes, shields and attach other extra appendages to his body. It is currently unknown if Bobby would be considered immortal.
Thermal Vision
Iceman has the ability to see beings due to the heat signature that they give off, because of the absence of heat around him.

Iceman is a mutant with the superhuman ability to lower his external and internal body temperature, projecting intense coldness from his body. Like any normal human being's, the nerve centers for regulating Iceman's body temperature are found in the part of the brain called the hypothalamus. However, Iceman can mentally override his hypothalamus to allow his body temperature to be lowered by an unknown internal mechanism. This ability converts the latent thermal energies in and around his body into an unknown form of energy that is efficiently dissipated. A related mutation has rendered his body tissues unaffected by sub-zero temperatures. Iceman can consciously, immediately lower his body temperature from its normal 98.6 Fahrenheit to absolute zero within the span of a few tenths of a second.

Bobby has a B.S. in Accounting from Metropolis State University and is studying to take his CPA. He hasn't taken a job in his field, because his life as a member of the X-Men keeps him busy. However, he has been known to help fellow teammates with taxes and other financial questions, joking that he'll keep bills for a future date.
Bobby speaks fluent Spanish, having learned it from a young age from childhood friends in New York.
Bobby has trained at Xavier's School since he was young. Alongside of Beast, Rogue, Cyclops, and Pyro, he's honed his hand-to-hand skills to an impressive level. While he's not the equivalent of someone like Wolverine, he's able to hold his own and has learned to incorporate combat maneuvers with his ice powers for some devastating combos.
Ice Skating
Almost out of necessity, Bobby is a skilled ice skater. He's only had a little formal training as an adolescent before his powers manifested, but given his powers of ice generation, he's quickly learned to move gracefully and quickly across frozen surfaces.

Bobby's really started branching out with his hobbies. He's taken up sculpting, mostly with clay and pottery. He's been using what he's learned to enhance his ice sculptures to lifelike quality.

Computer Database
Iceman has access to the X-Men database. This affords him knowledge of things on Earth and beyond.
Over the years, Iceman has had run-ins and encounters with many heroes and villains. Because of this, he's made friends and thus may be able to call upon these people in time of need.

Due to his long history with the X-Men and the many sub-teams, he's quite the popular guy and friend to many. He's had relationships with several members as well, and caused some problems; however, he can always count on his teammates in a crisis.

Like that of any trained athlete, Iceman's ability to perform is directly related to his daily physical health and current mental state. Under normal conditions, he can usually form ice continually for a period of about 5 hours before becoming mentally exhausted.
Iceman is vulnerable to mutant-specific complications or tech. This includes, but is not limited to: Mutant Hatred/Racial Violence, Mutant Neutralizing Weaponry, Mutant Neutralizing Collars, Mutating Mutations, and Mutant Stigma.
Rocky Relationships
Bobby's history with relationships has often resulted in tensions within the team or with his friends. His relationships can also be used against him by clever villains since Bobby would do anything for someone he loves.

He seems to lack the creativity and imagination to use his powers to their full potential, though fear of losing control over them may be a factor in his reluctance.
